Your weapon damage doesn't increase as you level up if that's what you're asking. As long as you aren't severely underleveled for certain monsters, it will be a one sided fight. Even then, I've been confident enough with this shotgun that when I did encounter an enemy with a skull over their name (higher level than player), the shotgun still chewed through them.The shotgun fires 8 pellets I believe.

That explosive bonus for shotguns affects every pellet and is what increased that damage output a lot. It's also why a 'Two Shot' legendary prefix shotgun is useless, because it doesn't double up the pellets. Instead it just goes from 8 pellets to 9.The Rifleman perk also affects shotguns, increasing damage even more.The high crit chance helps too as you can see. I think there's even a Crit damage perk, and if I maxed that, the Queen probably would have died in 4 hits instead of 5.So essentially Explosive + Rifleman + High Crit = Untouchable.
